Eels at the School Sport Queensland Swimming Championships.

Four Eels swimmers - Club Captain Lilly, Eddie and Tommy and Harrison - were selected to represent Metropolitan North Region at the School Sport Queensland Swimming Championships which were held at Chandler last week.

Lilly competed in the 200 metre Individual Medley and Eddie in the 50 metres Breaststroke in the 13 to 19 years age group; Tommy and Harrison in the 50 metres Breaststroke in the 10 to 12 years age group.

Eddie has represented Metropolitan North Region in every year since he was selected at age 10. What a fabulous effort!

All three swimmers gave it all and recorded PBs in every event in which they competed. That is a wonderful achievement.

Former Eels swimmers Reeva - who was the Darling Downs Region captain - and Imogen also competed with distinction.
I am hugely proud of their efforts; they represented their Region, their Club and their family with great distinction. Most pleasing of all was their desire to strive for improvement as they prepare for the next challenges.

Tommy had a fabulous meet. He competed with incredible resolve over three days against Queensland’s best. Following his great swim in the 200 metre Individual Medley on Wednesday he earned a bronze medal in the 50 metres Butterfly and scored a commanding victory in the 100 metres Breaststroke on Thursday. On Friday he finished fourth in the 100 metres Butterfly in a breathtaking finish.

Tommy has been selected to represent Queensland at the School Sport Australia Swimming Championships in Melbourne later this year. I am sure that you will join with me in wishing him well for his preparation for that meet. Good luck Tommy!

The meet was my final School Sports Championships with which I have had a connection as a physical education teacher and swimming coach since 1970. It could not ended on any better note.

Thank you to all Electric Eels families for the ongoing support you have extended to me for the last eleven years. It has left me with many happy memories.

Best wishes. Gary Conomos.
