A large contingent of swimmers from the Electric Eels Swimming Club attended the Metropolitan North Region Swimming Trials on Monday 02 March. They were accompanied by many trainer partners at the Wizards Swim School @ Geebung Swimmer Development Program.
I was able to attend the warm up session and admired the leadership of the senior girls - Rio, Tiara, Trudy, Natalie and Lily - and Eddie in supporting their training partners in a very crowded and challenging warm up session.
While all swimmers raced strongly - as they always do - very few qualified for selection in the Metropolitan North Regional Team to participate in the School Sport Queensland Championships in the last week of March. The qualifying times - especially for the swimmers in the 12 years plus age groups - set an extremely high standard. They approached the qualifying time for the Australian Junior Championships.
Nonethelesss when I returned to the meet later in the afternoon I was relieved to see that all swimmers enjoyed the experience and many have resolved to take steps to rise to the standards next year. I was proud of their efforts and their professional attitude.
The outstanding Eels swimmers on the day were Tommy. Harrison and Lily all of whom gained selection in the regional team. We are proud of them and wish them well at the State Championships.
Natalie, Agatha, Tiara and Tommy will be at Chandler again in the next week representing their school in prestigious major school meets. As well many swimmers will be representing their school in the annual Zone 6 meet. We wish them all well.
Happy snaps of the swimmers at the Regional Trials are included and may be added to.
