Eels at the Brisbane Junior Mets

1 Mar by Gary Conomos

Lily and Violet were the sole Eels representatives at the Brisbane Junior Swimming Championships this year. Both girls recorded some outstanding personal achievements in the 9 years age group events. Two swims each; 4 PBs. Another 100 percent record at a major meet.

Of particular note was Lily's swim in the 9 years 50 metres Freestyle event. For the first time ever Lily broke the 40 second barrier - a feat she has been striving to achieve all Summer. Her Eels training partners will be suitably impressed as was I. Violet continues to make steady progress. She has benefitted greatly from participation in sanctioned swim meets during the Summer.

Former Eels swimmer Imogen was outstanding in winning the gold medal in the 10 years 50 metres Breaststroke. Congratulations Lily, Violet and Imogen.

In previous years the Eels have scored big points in the Brisbane Junior Mets which have contributed to success in the Brisbane Swimming Premiership Table. It has also been an opportunity for swimmers to form relay teams and compete against other clubs affiliated with Swimming Brisbane. Unfortunately many Eels swimmers did not participate this year as the meet clashed with tomorrow's Metropolitan North Region Swimming Trials. Hopefully it will be different next year.

Best wishes to all Eels swimmers who are striving for selection in the Metropolitan North Region Swimming Team tomorrow. We know that you will support each other throughout the day.
