Eels at District Trials

19 Feb by Gary Conomos

It is a busy time of the year for the swimming community with lots of activity for swimmers at meets managed by Swimming Brisbane, Swimming Queensland and the sports districts which are associated with the Metropolitan North Region.

A host of Electric Eels swimmers participated in the District Swimming Trials which were conducted at the Lawnton Aquatic Centre from Wednesday 11 February to Wednesday 18 February. Other swimmers who are squad members at the Wizards Swim School @ Geebung also represented their school at the District Swimming Trials. Many swimmers competed for the first time having reach the minimum age of 10 years (born in 2016). Many other swimmers had improved significantly to attain the qualifying times for the first time.

All swimmers represented their school, club and family with distinction and deserve our admiration and congratulations. Many swimmers qualified for the Metropolitan North Region Swimming Trials which will be held at the Lawnton Aquatic Centre on Monday 02 March.

It was wonderful to see the spirit of those swimmers who did not qualify for the Metropolitan North Region Swimming Trials when they returned training. I admired their determination to strive to attain the next level at the 2027 District Swimming Trials.

We extend our best wishes to all swimmers who are striving for selection in the Metropolitan North Region Swimming team to compete against the very best young swimmers in Queensland at the School Sport Queensland Swimming Championships in the last week of March. We are proud of all of you.

I was unable to attend the District Swimming Trials due to work commitments at Geebung State School. Thus I am unable to provide any photographs. I would welcome photographs being added to this article.

In the meantime Lachlan and Lilly represented the Eels at the Commercial Swimming Club Long Course Preparation Meet at the Valley Pool. On a day when the weather was unkind Lachlan won another medal in the 100 metres Backstroke event. Lilly was again a solo Eels representative at the meet. I am sure she would enjoy the company of other Eels swimmers at any future meets.

The photograph shows Lachlan with other Eels swimmers Zoe, Alanah and former Eels swimmer Vivienne.
